NO on Prop 8 Campaign Slams Dishonest Mailer

NO on Prop 8 Campaign Slams Dishonest Mailer
Targeting African-American Voters
Mailer Misrepresents Sen. Obama Who is Opposed to Proposition 8;
Misleading African-American Voters
is Clearly the Goal of Deceptive Prop 8 Campaign
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – 10/31/08 – The NO on Prop 8 campaign today condemned an official Proposition 8 mailer clearly targeted to African-American voters that completely misrepresents and lies about Sen. Barack Obama’s position on Proposition 8. In fact, the Obama campaign felt compelled to release a new statement tonight making it absolutely clear that he and Joe Biden oppose Prop 8 in the strongest terms.
The mailer, from the Proposition 8 campaign, twists Sen. Obama’s comments about marriage to suggest support for the unfair initiative — when just the opposite is true. In a June 29 letter to the Alice B. Toklas Democratic Club, Sen. Obama wrote that he opposes the “divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution.”
The mailer drew a strong reaction from San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris.
“It is despicable that the Yes on 8 campaign would send out a last minute mailer to the African American community in a clear attempt to mislead voters about Senator Barack Obama’s position on Proposition 8,” said District Attorney Harris. “The leadership of this campaign should issue an immediate retraction and apology for this transparent attempt to deceive the public.”
The Obama letter reads in part:
“As the Democratic nominee for President, I am proud to join with and support the LGBT community in an effort to set our nation on a course that recognizes LGBT Americans with full equality under the law…And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states. For too long, issues of LGBT rights have been exploited by those seeking to divide us. It’s time to move beyond polarization and live up to our founding promise of equality by treating all our citizens with dignity and respect. This is no less than a core issue about who we are as Democrats and as Americans.”
Tonight, in response to the mailer, the Obama campaign released the following statement:
“Senators Obama and Biden have made clear their commitment to fighting for equal rights for all Americans whether it’s by granting LGBT Americans all the civil rights and benefits available to heterosexual couples, or repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” said a statement issued by campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt. “Senator Obama has already announced that the Obama-Biden ticket opposes Proposition 8 and similar discriminatory constitutional amendments that could roll back the civil rights he and Senator Biden strongly believe should be afforded to all Americans.”

NO on Proposition 8 Asks Grassroots Supporters to Move Video Through Groundbreaking Online Community

NO on Proposition 8 Asks Grassroots Supporters to Move Video
Through Groundbreaking Online Community
Largest online community created in California Political History
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – 11/02/08 – In a final request to the enormous Web-based community that’s skyrocketed around opposition to the discriminatory Proposition 8, the NO on 8 campaign today launched a 30-second video and called on supporters to share it widely with friends and family online.
The video, called “Parents,” accurately portrays the conversations that have encircled this unfair initiative from the beginning. Says one mother: “I don’t want my kids to grow up with discrimination. Or thinking it’s okay to take away peoples’ rights.”
The online community response to defeating Proposition 8 has created the largest grassroots movement in California political history. Consider these facts:
- The NO on 8 Facebook page now has more than 129,000 supporters over the course of less than a month when it was launched.
- The NO on 8 online community has contacted more than 100,000 friends and family.
- There have been more than three million views of NO on 8 videos online, with over one million from our YouTube channel.
- Yesterday, YouTube ranked the NO on 8 channel as 41st in viewer hits, even eclipsing the Obama channel, which was ranked 47th.
- In terms of online financial support, more than 72 percent of the donations to NO on 8 have come from California.
- More than 60 percent of those 96,000-plus online contributions have been $100 or less.
In an email accompanying the video to supporters, Geoff Kors of the NO on 8 Executive Committee wrote: ”This 30 second video speaks about what Prop 8 is really about: what kind of world we want each person and our children to live in — one that is free from discrimination and intolerance. Everyone you know needs to see this video.”
The text of the video follows:

Mormon Money Watch: Out of State Mormons
November 4, 2008
|
Mormon Money Watch: Out of State Mormons Just Gave $3 Million More to End Gay Marriage New Mormon Total = $22 Million!!
LOS ANGELES, CA – With days to go before the second most watched election in the nation, the really big Mormon money has been pouring in from Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona like never before.
Led by Alan Ashton of Lindon, Utah who gave $1,000,000 on October 29th, the Mormon Power Grab has gone off the charts, funding 77% of the Yes on 8 campaign. Ashton is a Mormon and grandson of David O. McKay, President of the Mormon Church from 1951 – 1970. He made his fortune in software.
The new total Mormon money contributed to pass California’s Proposition 8 is now a staggering $22 million dollars!
Just 8 out of state Mormons have given $2 million of the $3 million total in the last week alone. These are the 8 who have given $100,000 and more:
Alan Ashton, Lindon UT $1,000,000 Hartford Holdings, Provo, UT $300,000 David Moon, Alpine, UT $200,000 Michele Adams Watterson, Cache, UT $100,000 Roger Bayer, Salt Lake City, UT $100,000 Katharine Garff, Bountiful, UT $100,000 Belinda Vandersloot, Idaho Falls, ID $100,000 The Vineyard Group (Cardon & Hiatt Families), Mesa, AZ $100,000
There are dozens and dozens more Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona individuals and businesses that have given between $1,000 and $50,000 since our last Mormon Money Watch on October 24th adding up to an additional $1 million. They are listed on the California Secretary of State’s website: http://cal-access.ss.ca.gov/Campaign/Candidates/list.aspx?view=intention
Now with the additional $3 million of late Mormon money contributed over the last 9 days added to the $19.15 million previously given by over 59,000 Mormon families, the new total is over $22 million. This makes Prop. 8 the largest Mormon political undertaking in the 178 year history of the Mormon Church.
There were reports circulating on the blogs recently that the big out of state Mormon money was going to come in late to avoid scrutiny and that of course is just what has happened.
On June 20th, three days after same-sex marriage became legal in California, the top leadership in the Church, known as the First Presidency, sent a letter to be read to all Mormons to “do all you can to pass Proposition 8.” The Wall Street Journal reported on September 20th, that church members were told “their souls would be in jeopardy” if they do not donate money. Since then they have pushed the other leadership on the Yes on 8 campaign aside, and have taken over all facets of the campaign.
Please take a minute to read this excellent column from todays Salt Lake Tribune by Columnist Rebecca Walsh: http://www.sltrib.com/News/ci_10879061 It details why the Mormon Church has taken over this campaign and raises many questions as to its motivation.
Californians Against Hate was organized by veteran political consultant Fred Karger in July of this year to act as a truth squad, and tell the world who is funding California’s Yes on 8 campaign. It has recommended certain actions against some of the major contributors, and continued to publish its “Dishonor Roll” of all the $5,000 and over contributions to the Yes on 8 campaign which it posted on its website: http://californiansagainsthate.com/

What the fuck is wrong with Mormons?? HUH?
Election 2008 Psychic Prediction
November 3, 2008
The Election 2008 is going to be an extremely close race. It’s going to be a significant change forward for the better. The next President of the United States is going to be Barack Obama who is going to get to work immediately on solidifying a stronger America in 2009. He is also going to release the country from the grips and distractions of the older generations who have continuously sought to keep old fashioned traditional ways of life in tact while stalling the country from evolving. Obama will begin focusing on the newer and younger generations who are ready for change and to move us all forward in a bigger way. The Proposition 8 in California is not going to pass after all is said and done. The Yes on 8 supporters lose money with their seemingly pointless fight on a ban that enforces discrimination on part of the American public. This isn’t the basis or foundation of what America is about, and the No voters end up coming out of nowhere and showing up in droves which stomps out the Yes side of the support. It’ll be close as well or a 60/40 ratio and almost unaminous. This will mark the beginning of a new, braver, better, and stronger America.
Yes on 8 supports are horrific. Vote No on 8 for Equal Rights.
November 3, 2008
It is pretty sick that the Yes on 8 supporters say they’re trying to protect children, but they’re actually the ones that are using them. It’s quite terrifying how abusive they are, and hopefully the majority of the state will take over and give those socially and morally repressed sickos a good swift in the ass.
If you look at the Yes on 8 supporters to begin with, they all have this distinct look to them. They are full of hate and venom first of all. I’ve seen them in droves. They’re wacked out sickos with nothing else better to do. This is one of the most disgusting displays of human behavior that has ever happened in this country.
Yes on 8 supporters are Un-Amercian. They lie. They are just like the KKK and all those groups like it. They are no better than Hitler. They are responsible for the current decline in humanity. They are responsible for putting this country in the most despicable place that it is in today. There is no good amongst Yes on 8 supporters. They should all be shot dead. I have nothing but disgust and hate for them. I don’t even feel sorry for them. I think they’re hideously ugly first of all. If they’re not old and white, or white to begin with, they are dumb and black and mexican. They are unemployed. They contribute nothing to humanity in positive way. They are vile human beings. They are poisonous and they take up space. They contribute to hate crimes and after this hate crimes agains all humanity is going to rise no matter which way the proposition goes. Yes on 8 supporters have fucked up this state and this country. They have no love for their fellow man. They’ve blown over 25 million on pushing for discrimination when children are hungry, have no food, or dying of AIDS on the streets of Africa because no one will help them. And this filthy group of Yes on 8 supporters put their money in the wrong place to push for hate and discrimination, instead of helping the children that really need it. Man that is pretty fucking sick. I can’t wait to watch them all burn in hell.
If you believe that every citizen of the United States should be treated equally in this country that belongs to every single one of them, then you VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 8 on November 4, 2008.
Yes on 8 supporters are UN-AMERICAN!
Yes on 8 supporters want to hurt your children!
Yes on 8 supporters want this country to belong to them and no one else.
VOTE NO ON 8!
Yes on 8 Supporters Are Sleazy
October 30, 2008
Yep, you heard it here, they are sleazy, the latest they tried to do is bring down the No on 8 site. They’re so desperate to take over that they have their street slum do their dirty work. Hey, wasn’t the KKK the same way with the Blacks? Ya know, disguising themselves and committing little crimes like this to win? I don’t know, just saying, it harks back to those good ol’ days, which dumb red neck religious idiots know a lot about.
Today the NO on Prop 8 campaign’s Web site (http://www.noonprop8.com/) was the victim of what appears to be a coordinated attack designed to bring the system down. According to http://www.calitics.com/, the denial-of-service attack (DoS) on the NO on Prop 8 website occurred before 11:30pm, Wednesday, October 29th and coincides with a similar attack on Florida’s NO on 2 campaign, the Constitutional Amendment Against Marriage Equality.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in a denial-of-service (DoS) attack, an attacker attempts to prevent legitimate users from accessing information or services. By targeting a computer and its network connection, or the computers and network of the sites, an attacker may be able to prevent someone from accessing email, web sites, online accounts (banking, etc.), or other services that rely on the affected computer. The most common and obvious type of DoS attack occurs when an attacker “floods” a network with information.
The NO on Prop 8 campaign will provide additional details as they become available. # # #
No on Prop 8 are made up of only good people
October 30, 2008
Don’t forget to vote NO on Proposition 8. Do not let those horrible, really just vile nasty people take away the rights that you deserve. That’s what they want to do. They want you to know that they are in charge of this country and they are better people than you and that only they deserve these rights. Put yourself in someone else’s shoes for a change, instead of your own, and imagine a group of thugs, low life American’s who think they’ve got the market cornered on morality (Sarah Palin-whose got a teenager that fucks her boyfriends before marriage), they are no better than anyone else. So if you don’t vote or you vote yes on 8, then you are one of them and your karma will come back and smack you on the ass. Trust me on this. Yes on 8 = HATE.
Yes on 8 people are banned from being around me now from here on out. I don’t need evil close to me. I don’t even want to hear what they have to say, I’ve removed comments, the only reason I had it up before, because I wanted to collect their poison and have it ready for the masses, because I’m sadistic that way. There words are venomous and filled with hate and some of them try to contradict their reasoning, “oh I have a cousin whose gay, and my best friend is…” Oh shut the fuck up. I’m sure they’re happy you’re out there shoving them into the back of the bus. I don’t know anyone who would be friends with a Yes on 8 person except another fundamentalist self-rightoues, morally repressed bigot.
NO on Prop 8 to Air Two Spots Produced by Supporters for YouTube
October 30, 2008
NO on Prop 8 to Air Two Spots Produced by Supporters for YouTube
Campaign will Become First to Borrow YouTube Talent and Air It
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – 10/29/2008 – In a first for an American political campaign, the NO on Prop 8 campaign will pay to air two spots that were originally produced and uploaded to YouTube by supporters completely independent of the campaign.
“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of talent and creativity that has just exploded on the Internet,” said Patrick Guerriero, NO on 8 campaign director. “People just can’t believe how unfair and wrong this initiative is and they’re creating innovative Web-based viral spots to get the word out to vote NO on Prop 8. We thank everyone who has put their talent and time in spreading the word about the importance of opposing Prop 8.”
The independently produced spots have been a huge hit on the Web. There have been more than 3 million views of videos that appear on the campaign’s YouTube channel. Several spots in the channel have been ranked as “#1 Most Viewed” and “#1 Most Discussed” in the Nonprofits and Activism Category. The channel has consistently been ranked in the top 100 Most Watched Channels.
“The power of all of these YouTube videos is that they represent a chorus of voices, a community of people who may never have met or spoken but share the same passion that discrimination is wrong. They have immediate credibility,” said Chris Maliwat, the campaign’s web strategy director.
Late last week, the NO on Prop 8 campaign approached the producers of two of the spots and asked them to pare down their Web videos into 30-second commercials. The ads, entitled “Constitution” and “Moms,” will begin running statewide tomorrow. During the summer, in a completely organic and grassroots fashion, people independently produced their own messages and uploaded to YouTube.
Background on “Constitution” (www.noonprop8.com/videos)
In a homage to the very popular “Mac vs. PC” ads, this ad features characters that portray “NO on 8,” “Yes” and the “California Constitution.” With a dry comedic edge and perfect timing, the ad successfully gets across the point that amending the California Constitution to eliminate rights is wrong.
A few months back, a number of friends were sitting around wondering how they could influence Californians, in an impactful and respectful fashion, to vote NO on 8. Their answer was to collaborate on a spot that has become one of the most popular on YouTube. The cast and crew donated their services.
Collaborators: Andrew Oldershaw, Dayna Frank, Todd Shotz, Courtney Sexton, Angel Lopez (executive producers); Chris Panizzon (producer); Ray Lancon (writer); Jonah Markowitz (director); and Rachel Morrison (Director of Photography).
Background on “Moms” (www.noonprop8.com/videos)
Moms of all ages and ethnicities, from all over state, speak from the heart and call on California voters to reject the lies, to say NO to discrimination and to vote NO on Election Day. All of the moms are real, none are actresses and all are straight women.
The spot arose out of the collaborators’ frustration over the way in which proponents were targeting women voters with lies and scare tactics. The cast and crew donated their services so there were no expenses associated with this spot.
Collaborators: Yashar Hedayat (executive producer); and Michelle Jackino (executive producer/writer); Pablo Proenza (director); and Ellen Dimler (editor).

Shocking video: “The Call” to pass Prop 8
October 29, 2008
“Religious conservatives have cast the campaign in California as the decisive last stand, warning in stunningly apocalyptic terms of dire consequences to the entire nation if Proposition 8 does not pass.” — Laurie Goodstein, New York Times, October 26
The religious right is calling Proposition 8 its “decisive last stand” — an “Armageddon”-like battle to pass a ballot measure that would “eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry.”
We couldn’t agree more. This fight for our fundamental rights will shape the future of the progressive movement for decades to come, both in California and across the country.
The Mormon Church is on the front lines of this culture war, having intimidated members into contributing more than $10 million to pass Prop 8. But they are not alone in their rabid devotion to discrimination.
This Saturday, several ultra-right-wing religious groups will be gathering 70,000 evangelicals together in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium for “The Call” — a mega-church event that will mobilize thousands of out-of-state volunteers to get out the vote in Califonia.
http://www.couragecampaign.org/TheCall
These religious extremists also want to pass Proposition 4 — the “parental notification” ballot measure that medical professionals and progressive organizations agree would endanger teen safety.
According to Lou Engel, a leader behind “The Call,” the “Lord” has sent “powerful directives” to him to host this unprecedented event on November 1. In a revealing article about the religious right’s campaign to dictate public policy to Californians, the New York Times reported that:
“Preachers from other parts of the country have dropped everything and moved to California in recent months. Lou Engle, who leads The Call, a charismatic prayer ministry in Washington and Kansas City, Mo., with a large following among youth, moved with his seven children to California in September. He is holding large prayer rallies up and down the state, urging people to pray and fast for the 40 days leading up to the election. Some people are giving up solid foods; others are giving up clothes shopping or their favorite television shows.”
http://www.couragecampaign.org/TheCall
The ultra-right-wing will be out in force in San Diego and across California mobilizing volunteers to pass Props 4 and 8. We need to match them volunteer-for-volunteer.
Will you answer our call by forwarding this message to your friends — and asking them to volunteer with you — before it’s too late?
Thank you for doing everything in your power to protect the fundamental rights of Californians.
Rick Jacobs
Chair
P.S. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Elsa Prince, mother of Erik Prince — Blackwater’s founder and early funder — has contributed $450,000 to support Proposition 8. Elsa and Erik Prince also sit on the board of a family foundation that has donated $8 million to Christian groups involved in the “Yes on 8″ campaign.
