New York, October 10, 2008 – The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today applauded the Connecticut Supreme Court’s decision in that state’s landmark marriage case. “Today’s decision affirms the love, the mutual responsibility, and the enduring commitment of so many Connecticut couples – gay and straight,” said GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano.  ”It also serves as an important affirmation that all people, regardless of their orientation, should be protected fairly and equally under the law.”

“We congratulate and express our thanks to the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), Love Makes a Family, and all the other organizations, leaders and couples whose steadfast courage and tireless work culminated in today’s ruling,” Giuliano added. “We also encourage media reporting on this story to ground their coverage in the stories of the Connecticut couples whose love and commitment is at the heart of today’s decision.”

As of this morning, Connecticut becomes the 3rd state in history to legalize Marriage for all, black or white, same sex or straight.

If you want to be at the top of my list you better go out there and fucking vote on November 4th. If you’re not registered you better hurry up and go do it, no fucking around.

Hollywood has rallied around supporting marriage for all giving large sums of money to stop hate in California. Stephen Spielberg, Brad Pitt and Fall Out Boy to name a few donating $50,000 to $100,000.

Will You Marry Me??

I live in California, which means as of today I can marry another guy.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I’ve been laying low lately. I’ve made the mistake of putting others before myself. However, a noble act, sure, but also shortsighted. I’m no good to anyone burned out. I’m turning my priorities upside down, and putting myself right back at the top for a change, putting myself where I belong. I feel no need to justify this, I’m just doing it. I’m reclaiming my life and living it on my own terms again. I may show up for you or I may not at all.

A friend warned me over the weekend, “Now don’t go crazy and just marry anyone on Tuesday.” He had to say that because I’m a spontaneous character who can lucidly feel the heat of a moment which gets me into hot water, and thus becoming a messy situation to clean up.

I’m on the “market”, an eligible bachelor, a real catch right, elusive, un-get-able, un-for-gettable, boyfriend, husband, substance, one of those hot dad’s you’d like to fuck. :/ Thank you Slade. Taking my time to let the right person in that I feel sustains all distance, space, breathes me in as I breathe him out, who sticks around awhile.

Companionship.

A relationship.

One that I trust above all others.

I’ve stood with him as two, only to find I stood alone as one.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

What’s on my mind today? Marriage.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I’ve had four failed serious relationships over the course of my life. I took my time and I experienced loves gained and lost.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I say failed, because they’re not around anymore, but took an active interest in being intimate with other people while with me.

If Marriage is legal in California for everyone, then who is marriage really designed for?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Does anyone stay together?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Could it be my jaded reaction to it is because I just haven’t been lucky enough to meet someone who has the same beliefs as I do, someone who is facing forward with me in the same direction.

Relationships are possible it’s all a matter of keeping your eyes open to that one person who has their eyes open to you.

You can be a whore as long as you’re JUST a whore with me.

Amidst the crowd of 200 people, he steals moments with me over the course of the night reminding me what he said the day before, “you’re a stone cold fox”.

And now he can’t wait to get into bed with me.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

He pushes his way through the crowd pulling me away from my group, and off to the side to a quiet corner to plant kisses down my neck.

I say to him in reference to my past: “You think I’m a rose, but my body is covered with thorns.”

He leans in close, “and one by one I pull them all off, and when you lie next to me tonight, I’ll wait for you to fall asleep before I do.”

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Then he confessed, “I love your energy, your sensitivity, your emotion. I’ve pulled every bit of linen off the table and as corny as it sounds I just want to make you happy. I’m choosing to give this all to someone that might find this hard to accept, but that’s how I feel and I don’t mean to upset you if I ever did. And if you walk away knowing all those things, I will be a very happy guy, because I can’t deny you, I can’t, I’ve tried, you’re undeniable. And sexually I know it’ll be phenomenal, and notice that I say that last.”

Unthinkable good things can happen, even late in the game, unpredictability is highly overrated.

This lonesome town is now filled with people.

We inspire each other to be active and energetic in our endeavors. We crack ourselves open to one another, and very few people can get to that level of truth as consistently as we do.

Trying to remember those moments that are classic in your life with someone. They are purely unrecorded moments between two people that only the two of you understand.

Intriguing is the word I give him today leaning back inside the chapel walls.

You’ve stolen my heart brother, my love, with one glance of your eyes.

Your love pleases me like wine while I get drunk with you, a spring, sealed fountain, a dream, my thrill and your needs are for me. Put me like a seal over your heart, because our love is stronger than death. You’ll never fear betrayal as long as infinity exists. My love and adoration for you burns like a mighty, blazing fire. With relationships you’re in them together, and now that same sex marriages are legal in California, it’s you two against the world.

So fight it together…

But don’t forget to…

Celebrate.

“Our nation was founded on the principle that all people are created
equal.  Today’s decision is a huge step toward fulfilling that
promise.

“Celebration is certainly called for, but the fight for equality is
far from over.

“Court decisions may guarantee equality under the law, but the real
struggle is for the tolerance of our fellow Americans.

“This decision by a majority-Republican court signals that it’s time
to put this kind of discrimination and bigotry behind us.

“Unfortunately, not everyone will hear the court’s message. Already,
there is a campaign being organized to overturn this decision at the
ballot box.  Californians must put an end to this sort of cynical and
divisive politics once and for all.

“California has led our nation so many times before.  I hope that once
again we set an example that the nation will follow.”

FROM JIMMY PALMIERI, FOUNDER OF THE TWEAKERS PROJECT, AND CO-CHAIR OF THE WEST HOLLYWOOD LESBIAN AND GAY ADVISORY BOARD:

Today, we are no longer second class citizens. We need to understand,  that in our lifetimes, we have worked hard and have now seen history in the making.  The right to marry the person that you love, is a fundamental human right, which should never have been prevented by government interference or religious zealots with quasi-moralistic values.  Love is love, regardless of gender.  This is a day of celebration, and time to call Governor Schwarzenegger onto the carpet.  Let us see if he stands by his words, and supports us, now that the courts have made their decision.

Dean: California Court Decision
A Step Toward Equal Rights Under The Law

Washington, DC – Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement on the California Supreme Court decision to overturn the state’s anti-marriage ban:

“The Supreme Court of California today took a step forward in the long march toward protecting equal rights under the law for every American.  This should not be a matter of politics or partisanship; it is a matter of protecting the rights and dignity of all American families.”

After More Than 20 Years of Fighting for the

Legal Rights of Same-Sex Couples,

West Hollywood City Council Members to Join with Other LGBT Leaders to Celebrate the California State Supreme Court’s Ruling To Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

Celebration and Rally to Take Place Tonight (Thursday, May 15, 2008) at 7 p.m. at the Intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD – Since its incorporation in 1984, the City of West Hollywood has been one of the most ardent advocates for the legal rights of same-sex couples and the right to marry. Tonight the members of the West Hollywood City Council will join with other leaders from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) community to celebrate the California Supreme Court’s historic ruling today which grants same-sex couples in California the right to marry. The celebration will take place tonight (Thursday, May 15, 2008) at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood.

The City of West Hollywood was one of the first cities in the country to pass a resolution in support of same-sex marriage.  The City, along with a number of other cities in California, filed an amicus brief in the case in support of same sex-marriage rights. The City of West Hollywood is known throughout the world for its pioneering efforts on behalf of LGBT civil rights and established one of the first domestic partnership laws in the country in 1985.

The following are comments from members of the West Hollywood City Council on today’s California Supreme Court’s ruling in support of same-sex marriage:

West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang: “This is a historic day, not only for California, for but the nation,” said West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang. “With this decision, the LGBT community can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel in our civil rights movement, at which equal opportunity and full civil rights will be extended.  We still have many challenges ahead, including a November ballot measure by the foes of equality.  However, Californians and the American people continue to demonstrate, more

and more, their fundamental belief in fairness to all people, no matter their status,” he continued.

West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore Abbe Land: “We are overjoyed at the Court’s ruling,” said Mayor Pro Tem Abbe Land. “The City of West Hollywood has long been an advocate for marriage equality, and we’re thrilled that so many of our residents who have been in loving and committed relationships, in many cases for decades, will finally be afforded the dignity and support that comes with marriage,” she continued.

West Hollywood Councilmember John Duran: “This is a historic day for all Californians as we witness the notion of equality under the law expand,” said West Hollywood Councilmember John Duran who also serves as statewide President of Equality California. “Why would any government attempt to prevent two persons in love from marrying and making a lifetime commitment?” he continued.

West Hollywood Councilmember Sal Guarriello: “This decision by the California Supreme Court is a giant step for the LGBT community and the rest of us who support same-sex marriage. Congratulations to all who worked so hard to make this happen,” said West Hollywood Councilmember Sal Guarriello.

West Hollywood Councilmember John Heilman: “This is a historic day for the LGBT community,” said West Hollywood Councilmember John Heilman. “Not just with respect to marriage, but because the California Supreme Court has recognized us as fully entitled to all of the rights that everyone else takes for granted,” he continued.

Asm. Laird Statement on Same-sex Marriage Ruling

SACRAMENTOAssemblymember and LGBT Caucus Chair John Laird (D-Santa Cruz) today released the following statement in response to the California Supreme Court ruling today in favor of same-sex marriage:

“Today the California Supreme Court took an important and historic step forward for equality for all Californians.  As an Assemblymember and chair of the legislature’s LGBT Caucus, I’m thrilled with this morning’s court ruling because it is a victory for fairness and opportunity in California.

Clearly, today is a day to celebrate.  Two people in a committed and trusting relationship deserve the opportunity for dignity and support that come with marriage. But we must also stay focused on the struggle to maintain the rights that have now been validated by the state Supreme Court.  The momentum generated today will be needed to stop the ballot measure that may be on this November’s ballot.

The Court did its job today, ensuring that all Californians are treated fairly and equally under the law.”

Assemblymember Laird is the author of four bills signed into law that protect and strengthen civil rights in California.  He is also the author of a fifth such bill, the Civil Rights Act of 2008, which is currently being considered in the legislature.

Before being elected to the Assembly, Mr. Laird served two terms on the Santa Cruz City Council including two terms as Mayor, becoming one of the first openly gay mayors in the United States.  A former executive director of the Santa Cruz AIDS Project, he has been a leader on HIV/AIDS issues, particularly state funding for programs and services. In 2003, he successfully advocated against the proposal to require a co-pay for participants in the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP).  And in 2004, he championed the cause to defeat a proposal to place an enrollment cap on ADAP. Mr. Laird also led the effort to restore funding for the Therapeutic Monitoring Program, and he was a joint author of a bill which created a pilot program for pharmacies that service Medi-Cal HIV/AIDS patients to evaluate the effectiveness of medication therapy management services. In 2005, Mr. Laird fought to include in the 2005 Budget Act an augmentation to restore HIV Education and Prevention funding for various local health jurisdictions to 2001-02 funding levels.

GLAAD APPLAUDS CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT RULING ON MARRIAGE

New York, May 15, 2008 – The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today applauded the California Supreme Court’s decision in that state’s landmark marriage cases. The court’s ruling on the cases, referred to collectively as In re Marriage Cases, extended marriage to gay and lesbian couples in the Golden State.

“Today’s ruling affirms that committed couples, gay and straight, should not be denied the duties, obligations and protections of marriage,” said GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano.  ”We congratulate and express our deepest appreciation to the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Equality California, Lambda Legal, the ACLU, Our Family Coalition, Heller Ehrman LLP, the Law Office of David C. Codell and the other organizations, leaders and courageous couples whose work and perseverance culminated in today’s ruling.

“This decision is a vital affirmation to countless California couples — straight and gay — who want to make and have made a lifelong commitment to take care of and be responsible for each other,” Giuliano added.

“In the days and weeks ahead, media will turn their attention to this important ruling and its impact on many thousands of committed couples in California,” Giuliano concluded. “GLAAD urges those outlets to continue sharing the stories of the couples whose enduring commitments are at the heart of today’s decision.”
